Triton Says iHeart Remained In First Place On Its U.S. Ranker In September.

Triton Digital says the iHeartPodcast Audience Network held onto the top spot on its ranker of the biggest sales networks during September. Triton says iHeart had 69.2 million average weekly downloads last month and 19.9 million average weekly users for its network of more than 500 shows. Similar to August, both metrics were up month-to-month. The iHeart Audience Network includes not only shows published by iHeartPodcasts, but other publishers’ shows for which it sells advertising.

Triton says the SiriusXM Podcast Network remained in second place with 13.7 million average weekly users and 41.6 million average weekly downloads. Both metrics were lower last month than in August.

NPR and Wondery split third place. NPR had more downloads — 21.3 million vs. 21.1 million — while Wondery had more unique listeners, 7.3 million vs. 7.1 million.

The other movement in the top ten came as Audacy overtook Audioboom to become the publisher with the fifth-biggest total number of downloads. Among unique listeners, Soundrise rose to No. 9, pushing Paramount to No. 10.

Triton says during September the top three podcasts based on downloads included NPR News Now, which again ranked No. 1 among the publishers it measures, followed by NPR’s Up First and Audiochuck’s Crime Junkie.

The order was slightly different based on the number of unique listeners. The top three podcasts in September based on the publishers measured by Triton were NPR News Now, again at No.1, followed by Crime Junkie, and NPR’s Up First in third place. It was the same as a month earlier.

Triton Digital says there were several debuts for the month of September, including iHeart’s NFL Daily with Gregg Rosenthal, SiriusXM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson, and NBCUniversal’s All In With Chris Hayes.
