‘The Daily’ To Get New Host In 2025 As Sabrina Tavernise Leaves Daily Show.

Sabrina Tavernise is stepping away from hosting dues at The Daily. The New York Times says she will return to reporting at The Times. Tavernise has been a co-host of the morning news podcast since March 2022. In a note to staff, Director of Audio Paula Szuchman and The Daily’s Executive Producer Ben Calhoun say some of show’s regular guest hosts will join host Michael Barbaro in the coming months as they search for a permanent co-host.

That person will likely come from inside the paper. The Times has posted a job listing. It seeks someone with at least five years working in the paper’s newsroom, with experience being a guest on the podcast. It also shows the post comes with an annual base pay salary between $190,000 and $225,000.

“Because experience as a New York Times journalist and relationships in the newsroom are so invaluable in the role, we plan to focus our search internally. That will not be to the exclusion of all other applicants, but we anticipate the hire will be internal and will focus our efforts there,” Szuchman and Calhoun write in the note.

During her time at The Daily, Tavernise spearheaded the show’s coverage of the war in Ukraine as she leaned into her experience as a veteran war correspondent, and her Russian fluency. She has also focused on coverage of the war in Gaza.

Podtrac says The Daily remained the most-listened show during November among the publishers it measures.
