Three-quarters of the U.S. population reported listening to online audio in the last month. According to Edison Research’s Infinite Dial Report, 79% of the U.S. population (12+) reported monthly listening to online audio in 2025 — an estimated 228 million listeners.
For reference, the study refers to online audio as listening to streams of AM/FM radio or listening to audio content such as podcasts or streaming music services.
Breaking it down by demo, 90% of 12- to 34-year-olds are listening to online audio in a typical month. Those 35-54 are at 87%, while there is real growth in monthly online audio listening among those over 55 years old, which went from 52% last year to 63% this year.

Weekly, 73% of the U.S. population (12+) listen to online audio. Weekly online listening is only six points behind monthly online listening and accounts for approximately 210 million weekly online listeners.
Edison says that among those 55 and older listening preferences for the online audio brands they use most often are more evenly distributed across multiple brands.
The report is based on data collected in January from a national survey of 5,020 individuals 12 and older. The survey was conducted in both English and Spanish using 1,006 telephone surveys and 4,014 online interviews. The data was weighted to national 12+ U.S. population figures.
