The newest podcast at NPR isn’t new at all. The series How To Do Everything first debuted in 2011, and it ran for five years until production ended in 2016. Nearly a decade later, NPR is reviving the show with original hosts Mike Danforth and Ian Chillag — two producers of the podcast and public radio show Wait, Wait...Don’t Tell Me! The world may have changed a lot since the last episode of How To Do Everything dropped, but the premise of the show remains the same. It aims to answer life’s most pressing questions — from how to get out of quicksand to how to get out of an awkward conversation at a party — with a heavy dose of humor.
“It’s really nice how easy it’s been getting back into making How To,” said Chillag. “It’s like riding a bike. Which is something we once taught a grown man to do on the show. I hope he’s still alive.”
NPR says the 2024 version of How To Do Everything will debut new episodes, along with reviving shows from the archives that have not been easily accessible. The show will be published weekly on Wednesdays in the How To Do Everything feed, and every other Wednesday in the Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me! feed.
“My favorite part of the show is hearing questions from listeners,” says Danforth. “Do cows have different accents? Do I smell? These are actual questions we’ve tried to answer.”
How To Do Everything will be available ad-free for subscribers of Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me+. They will also get bonus episodes of Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me featuring exclusive games, behind-the-scenes content, and more.
