Music Mag Rolling Stone Turns Its ‘500 Greatest Songs’ List Into A Podcast.

Rolling Stone is launching a new podcast that explores the brand's acclaimed “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” list. Teaming up with iHeartPodcasts, the magazine says it will dissect Rolling Stone's iconic list and dig deep into the magic and mythology behind the songs. Rolling Stone staff writer Brittany Spanos and contributing editor Rob Sheffield will host the series, which will focus on classics ranging from Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” to The Ronettes “Be My Baby,” and modern-era hits like The Killers “Mr. Bright Side,” and Britney Spears' “Baby One More Time.”

“We’re thrilled to launch the 500 Greatest Songs podcast, bringing the stories behind some of the greatest music ever made to life on a new platform,” said Jason Fine, Senior VP of Rolling Stone Films. “Brittany and Rob bring deep knowledge and enthusiasm for music to these conversations and help the listener understand each song's relevance. iHeartMedia’s audio expertise has given this list a new format and platform, bringing the 500 songs to an entirely new audience.”

The “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” list was first published in 2004 and completely updated in 2021 with more than 300 voters, including artists from Beyoncé and Stevie Nicks to Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, along with top executives, critics, producers, journalists, and industry professionals. The current list has received more than one billion page views since publication.

In addition to the podcast, a companion playlist of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” has also been created to stream exclusively on the iHeartRadio app.

“We are excited to join forces with Rolling Stone to help bring a whole new audience to this carefully curated list,” said Will Pearson, President of iHeartPodcasts. “Having the opportunity to take amazing journalism from Rolling Stone writers into audio and bring it to iHeart’s millions of podcast listeners is a winning partnership. Plus, offering a music playlist of the ‘500 Greatest Songs of All Time’ on the iHeartRadio app makes it even easier for fans to enjoy the full list while taking a deep dive into the music that has mattered so much to them.”

The first season of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs podcast consists of 25 weekly 30-minute episodes released each Wednesday.
