The second Nielsen PPM survey with the three-vs.-five-minutes-for-quarter-hour-credit shows little difference from January.
Judging from the top five stations in Day 1’s eight non-embedded markets during the February survey period, covering Feb. 6-March 5, the differences from January are minimal, with the top-ranked station the same in seven of those eight — the one outlier Philadelphia, where WIP-FM, flagship of the Super Bowl champion Eagles, dropped from first to third.
Here and there, there are other noticeable changes, such as January-to-February share differences in the plus-or-minus-one-point range for the top two in both Atlanta and Chicago — the latter where iHeartMedia’s soft AC WLIT, which plunged from first to eighth in January, roared back to number two in February.
For Day 1, the leaderboard shows three crowns for AC, two for news/talk, and one each for sports, all-news, and rock.
NEW YORK
iHeartMedia AC “Lite FM” WLTW celebrates a 30th consecutive win, doing so with a half-share-point gain from January. Also up from January is Audacy classic hits WCBS-FM, with a 0.6 lift pushing it up from third to second. While Audacy news sister WINS-AM/FM moves from second to third, its share stays the same as in January. Spanish Broadcasting System Spanish tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ returns to the top five with a 0.4 gain, as iHeart classic rock sister “Q104.3” WAXQ places fifth, off by just 0.1.
LOS ANGELES
Not much of a difference from January, as iHeart AC KOST racks up a fourth straight survey on top, with Audacy classic hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH close behind. Both iHeart’s hot AC “104.3 MyFM” KBIG and CHR KIIS-FM step up a spot, now at third and fourth, while Audacy news KNX-AM-FM ranks fifth.
CHICAGO
Audacy news WBBM-AM/WCFS repeats at the top, gaining for a second straight survey and up 0.9 from January. iHeart soft AC “93.9 Lite FM” WLIT vaults from eighth to a tie for second with urban AC sister “V103” WVAZ, the former making a 0.8 gain. Hubbard Radio classic rock “The Drive” WDRV ranks fourth and holds steady share-wise, while Nexstar Media Group talk WGN-AM makes a rare top five appearance, up a full share point from January and tying for fifth with Hubbard hot AC sister “101.9 The Mix” WTMX.
SAN FRANCISCO
While the Bay City’s top five are in the same order as in January’s survey, there are a couple of notable share differences — starting at the top with news/talk pubcaster KQED, down a share point and with a slimmer lead over Audacy news KCBS-AM/KFRC-FM. Bonneville AC sister KOIT doesn’t budge rank- or share-wise, but fourth-ranked classical pubcaster KDFC is off 0.6 for its lowest share delivery since September 2024.
DALLAS
Cumulus Media sports “The Ticket” KTCK-AM/FM has been number-one in Dallas for five of the last seven Nielsen surveys, with January’s 7.1 and February’s 6.4 being the station’s best delivery since May 2023. Univision Spanish regional Mexican “Que Buena 94.1” KLNO ranks second, 1.5 points behind The Ticket, while iHeart’s AC “Star 102.1” KDGE and CHR “106.1 Kiss FM” KHKS finish third and fourth, with Audacy adult hits “100.3 Jack-FM” KJKK fifth.
HOUSTON
It’s a seventh straight win for iHeart AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA, a comfortable 2.6 points ahead of Hope Media Group contemporary Christian KSBJ, which is up from third to second. Urban One claims the rest of the top five, with classic rock “The Eagle 106.9/107.5” KGLK/KHPT, country “93Q” KKBQ, and urban AC “Majic 102.1” KMJQ lining up at 3-4-5.
ATLANTA
Cox Media Group news/talk WSB-AM/WSBB-FM ekes out a ninth consecutive victory, shedding 1.1 from January and just a tenth of a point ahead of Urban One urban AC “Majic 107.5/97.5” WAMJ, up a full share point as it moves from third to second. Sliding from second to third is CMG classic hits sister “97.1 The River” WSRV, off by half a point, while Audacy urban contemporary “V103” WVEE and CMG urban AC “Kiss 104.1” WALR stick at fourth and fifth, up 0.2 and 0.8 respectively.
PHILADELPHIA
For the first time since February 2024, Beasley Media Group controls Philly’s top two, as rocker WMMR returns to number one for the first time since December’s survey, up 0.6 from January, while classic rock sister WMGK holds at second, up just 0.2. Although the book includes Super Bowl Sunday and the Eagles’ victory, Audacy sports WIP-FM drops from first to third, giving up 2.3 share points from January. iHeart’s urban AC WDAS-FM and Audacy news sister KYW hold tight at fourth and fifth.
