With just over a week to go before the Thanksgiving holiday, more than 150 radio stations across the country have flipped to an all-Christmas music format, according to data from Inside Radio’s Precision Trak.
Joining the merrymakers this Friday (Nov. 17) will be iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite FM” WLTW New York, which will make its annual transition at 5pm as morning hosts Paul “Cubby” Bryant and Christine Nagy broadcast live from the “Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes” with special guest Debbie Gibson. Leading up to the official flip, the station is giving away tickets to listeners to join “Cubby & Christine” at the Radio City Music Hall extravaganza.
“Our yearly tradition continues with the world-famous Rockettes at the iconic Radio City Music Hall,” PD Chris Conley said in a release. “We are excited to welcome New York’s very own Debbie Gibson to share in this spectacular occasion with us.”
Listeners of Hubbard AC “Warm 106.9” KRWM Seattle were greeted with the sounds of the season Monday morning (Nov. 13). “Warm 106.9 is once again Seattle’s official Christmas music station. There’s nothing we love more than providing the soundtrack of the season,” Brand and Content Director Cat Thomas said following the station flip.
Other recent Christmas converts include Beasley Media Group AC “Magic 98.3” WMGQ Middlesex-Somerset-Union, NJ, which made the move on Friday, Nov. 10. “It wouldn’t be Christmas in New Jersey without Christmas music on Magic 98.3,” PD Debbie Mazella said in a release.
Also on Friday, Stephens Media Group soft AC “Warm 101.3” WRMM Rochester, NY kicked off its “Holiday Gift of Music” at 12 noon with Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” In nearby Syracuse, iHeartMedia AC “Y94” WYYY is now “Syracuse’s Christmas Music Station.”
Steel City Media AC “KC 102.1” KCKC Kansas City is wall-to-wall Christmas music, marking the station’s second consecutive year of making the move on Nov. 10. The listener who was closest to correctly guessing when the flip would be made won a $500 prize. Meanwhile, Cumulus Media crosstown classic hits KCMO (94.9) will make its Christmas flip on Nov. 22.
